Bangkok is obviously one of the world’s best place to eat tasty Thai food.
There are so many restaurants and street vendors selling Thai food that
it can sometimes be difficult to spot the really good ones. Also some
restaurants cater mostly to tourists, and the food might not be top
quality, since tourists are usually easier to satisfy than the locals.
What we want are places that serve authentic and delicious Thai food,
where the Thais themselves love to eat.
Here we will give you some
favorite places to eat authentic Thai food. These are places that not
many tourists visit, mostly Thais and expats living in Bangkok.
1. Bangrak

absolute food gem in Bangkok. The place has a nice and cool atmosphere,
with live music and art exhibitions now and then.

2. Bangkoks Best Street Food on Sukhumvit Soi 38
All
over Bangkok you will find cheap and delicious Thai food on the street.
Some places are pop-up food stalls that move around on trolleys, while
others are more or less permanent, serving fresh and tasty Thai food at
small tables on the street pavement. Some of the very best Thai street
food is found at the food market on Sukhumvit Soi 38.
The
food here is tasty, quickly delivered and super cheap. You can have a
feast for under 150 Baht! The menus are in English. They uses fresh
ingredients and make the food right there and then in front of your
eyes. It is a favorite not only among tourists, but also local Thais,
and they do have take-away.
Here you will find all sorts of Thai
food, from satay, pad Thai, barbecue spears with peanut butter, chicken
in different variations, fried rice, noodles and different soups,
crispy duck and curries of all kinds.
They also serve delicious and cheap juices and smoothies, all freshly made white you are waiting.
And my favorite dessert, sticky rice and coconut milk with mango.

by you can also eat Bangkok’s best Mango with sticky rice. People from

3. La Table de Tee
This
restaurant is a real gourmet treasure in Bangkok. The food is
absolutely stunning, both in its presentation and taste. Each evening
the chef have a set menu where you can choose between two starters, two
main dishes and two desserts. In between you also get two small dishes,
so all together five dishes. All dishes are very well composed to fit
together as a whole set dinner. It all cost 1100 Baht per person, not
including drinks. Very expensive by Thai standards, but so much value
for your money compared to what you would have to pay for this kind of
gourmet dinner in the western countries. It is an absolutely gourmet
restaurant. If you are looking for a place to cater for a special
occasion, like birthday or anniversary, then this
is the perfect place.

4. Kalpapruek
Almost
all of the big and posh shopping centers in Bangkok have food courts
with food from all around the world. Many of them are in a big open
area, which is very crowded and noisy. Kalpapruek on 7th floor of
Central World is a lovely exception.
If you are not that hungry, and more up for something sweet, then you must try one of their super tasty cakes.
- Address:Kalpapruek has three restaurants in Bangkok

5. Somtum Der – Bangkoks Best Som Tam (Papaya Salad)
Somtum
Der is a small cozy restaurant serving delicious northeast Isaan Thai
food. The restaurant has a great outside area where you can sit, eat
and drink their tasty martinis of vodka and lemongrass or Rosella. Their specialty is the Som Tam (Papaya Salad), of which they have eight versions at the menu.
The
easiest for beginners is the Tum Thai, the base papaya salad made with
papaya, limes, tomato, chilies, peanuts and palm sugar. The Tum Thai Kai
Kem with salted boiled egg, and the Tum Kor Moo Yang with savory
grilled pork neck are also delicious.
All of the Som Tams are
however quite spicy, even the one-chili versions are hot, but you can
ask for a non-spicy version. Whatever Som Tam you try, order the black or regular sticky rice and dip it into the leftover sauce. Yummy~
The
real star on the Somtum Der`s menu is the Moo Ping Kati Sod,
thin-sliced pork (or beef) skewers marinated in coconut milk, and then
grilled until the marinade caramelizes and chars. It is served with
nests of coconut-scented rice noodle. It is so tasty! You may also try the house special
grilled marinated Pork.
Somtum Der also have desserts
on the menu, like the Thai-styled Ice Kajang, a dish that looks
intimidating and impressive but is mostly air. Harder to get past is its
flavor. Let’s just say that if you’re a true fan of white bread and
pink bubble gum, this is probably the desert for you.
Somtum
Der is an affordable, friendly place with delicious and authentic north
Isaan Thai food. The atmosphere is great. They also have a restaurant
in New York with the same name.

6. Bamee Sawang – Bangkoks best Noodle Soup
The noodle cafe Bamee Sawang, close to the train station, has Bangkok’s best noodle soup!
It
is the king of noodle soup. People from all over the world, as well as
Thais, come here for the famous and unique Hgaojuei Sae-Shuri’s family
receipt of egg noodle soup.
The
egg noodles are hand-made in the restaurants, the barbecued pork is
delicious and honey sweet and the crab is salty and tasty. They use wood
instead of gas, so this is the real and authentic place to have the
perfect noodle soup.

7. Thip Samai – Bangkok's Best Pad Thai
The
small restaurant Thip Samai apparently has the one of the best Pad Thais in
Bangkok. We have
eaten a lot of Pad Thais over the years, and this one was really
delicious. Thip Samai also has the most amazing orange juice I
have ever tasted. It was so fresh and full of flavor. I could just feel
it`s healthfulness as I was drinking it.
So if you go here, make sure to order the orange juice and not just
another Singha (which you can buy basically everywhere in Thailand).
- Address: 313 Th Maha Chai, Banglamphu
- How to get there: It is best to take a taxi or tuk-tuk here.

We
simply LOVE Thai food, and we highly recommend these seven places to
eat tasty and authentic Thai food. They all have delicious and freshly
made Thai food, although at different price ranges and in different
“settings”. These places are not typically tourist places, so you are
sure to get authentic delicious Thai food, where also the local Thais
eat.
